Rules

Predicting is done on a weekend basis and involves matches played on Saturday and Sunday only. There will be 10 matches per weekend to bet on. These matches will be made up of Premier League games with additional Football League, International and Cup games if there are less than 10 Premier League fixtures on a weekend. When cup games are used it is the full time score which counts as the result, any extra time or penalties are ignored.

Each Punter starts the season with 0 points. Every weekend each punter can gamble up to a total of 50 points. The gambling works in the same way that standard high-street gambling operates – your stake is taken and you will lose that stake if you are wrong. If you are right your stake is returned along with your winnings. Points gained or lost are added or subtracted from the original points allocation giving a revised total score upon which the League Table is based. Don’t worry – if you go into negative figures you continue playing – think of it like your overdraft!

The betting rules are as follows:

  1. For each game, the punter must make 2 predictions. These are: 1. Full time score, and 2. The overall result (ie home win, away win or draw).

  2. Each Prediction on every score and result must be between 1 and 10 points. Every score and result MUST be bet upon. Your total across all games in one weekend must be no more than 50 points.
  3. The odds for getting the correct score are 5/1.

  4. The odds for getting the right overall result are 2/1.

If you predict that Liverpool will win 2-1 at home Vs Everton, then you must also predict a Home win. You can’t predict a result that contradicts your score prediction. For a more detailed explaination of the general rules of the game, visit the How to Play page.

Failure to submit predictions will give you a score of 0 for that week, and exclude you from the Punter of the Week contest for that week.

Any game which is postponed or abandoned will see all stakes returned.

Punter of the Week

The prize will be awarded to the active punter who achieves the highest score of the week. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the punter who has the higher number of correct scores (NOT the hightest number of points won on scores. So, a punter with two single point correct scores will beat a punter with one correct 10 point score). In the event that tied punters have the same number of correct scores, the prize will be rolled over to the following week.

Prediction Cup

Punters will be picked at random into pairs to play off against one another. The punter who out-scores his/her opponent that weekend will progress to the next round, while the loser will be knocked out of the cup. In the event of a draw, the Punter who gets the highest number of correct scores will progress. (The value of those scores is irrelevant, so two correct scores of one point each will beat one correct score with 10 points bet on it). If both punters have the same number of correct scores, the winner will be the one whose score registers higher on the PRAT rating. If there is still no winner, the tie will be replayed. In the event of neither of two competing punters submitting on a cup weekend, both will be illiminated. A Phantom Punter will be added to the following round’s draw providing a bye for whoever draws them. Points earned during cup weekends will count as usual towards the League. Where necessary due to uneven numbers, byes and/or three-way round-robin play-offs may be used.

High-Score-O-Meter

All punters’ weekly scores count towards the High-Score-O-Meter. The highest individual week’s score at the end of the season will win the High-Score-O-Meter prize. (In the event of a tie the prize money will be split evenly between the joint winners). Any single week’s score of 100 points or more will win £5.

Sudden Death

Punters are required to pick a team from the list that they expect to win their game that weekend. If the chosen team wins, the punter will progress to the following week. If the chosen team loses or draws the punters is out. Teams are taken from the current week’s regular prediction form. However, punters may only pick a side ONCE. So, if a punter selects Chelsea to win in Week 1 and they do indeed win, that punter will not be able to select Chelsea again until the game has run its course and started again. The game continues until either one punter is left (ie the winner) or all punters are knocked out. The game will start again with all punters and all teams reset the following week.

In the event of a game being postponed or abandoned, the tPs Pools Panel will decide which team would have won, or if it would have been a draw. The result will be determined from the REGULAR PREDICTIONS of ALL PUNTERS in the normal prediction form (ie NOT the Sudden Death predictions). So, if Tottenham vs Everton is postponed or abandoned and most punters predicted a home win in their regular predictions, punters who selected Tottenham in Sudden Death will be awarded a win and proceed to the next round. If there are two outcomes with equal numbers of predictions (ie 35 home win predictions, 35 draw predictions and 20 away win predictions) the result will be set as a draw and punters who picked both Tottenham and Everton will be out.

There are no prizes awarded for winning Sudden Death.

Forum, Profiles

tPs reserves the right to edit all written submissions to the Forum and punter’s individual profiles. While we expect a good level of banter throughout the site we will not tolerate anything offensive or libelous (or downright mean to people we like!). Remember, this is a family site so please keep it clean.

Prizes

Prizes are paid out on the following:

  • Punter of the Week.
  • League: 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th places.
  • tPs Cup: Winner.
  • High-Score-O-Meter
  • Weekly scores of 100 points or more (£5)

Prize amounts will be set prior to the beginning of the season (with the exception of the 100+ points prize which is set at £5) and will depend on punter numbers.

All prize money is paid in the form of vouchers for Amazon.co.uk. In the event of a tie for any prize, the prize money will be split between all winning punters where possible, otherwise it will be rolled over. Some rounding may occur. Since Amazon vouchers are sent to a recipient via email it is Punters’ responsibility to ensure a valid email is supplied and that email accounts are monitored for emails from Amazon, especially where punters’ email clients make use of spam filters. Prize winners should allow a reasonable time for prizes to be delivered, but if prizes have not been received with 3 days they should contact tPs. tPs will be happy to help punters locate any missing prizes where the above email advice has been followed.

The rules of the game are dictated and governed by tPs and the decision of tPs is final. Where unforeseen events occur and are not covered by these rules tPs will endeavor to be fair to all punters. tPs reserves the right to remove punters from the game at any time at their discretion. At time of writing, Ian and Rob make only a tiny income from tPs (enough for a few pints and a curry, pretty much), so please be nice.
